About Finding Your Place in the Country

We have been living in Altavista, in Campbell Couanty Virginia, since 2006. This land was originally owned by the Lane Brothers of Lane Furniture.  When we bought this house I can remember wondering if we were making the biggest mistake of our lives.  The property needed a lot of repair and I wasn’t so sure about leaving Lynchburg and moving to the country.  Fortunately, it was one of the best decisions we have ever made.

Country Living

My commute to my office in Lynchburg is only about a 25 minute drive.  I can either take the highway or mosey through the back roads.  At night the sky when the sky is clear I can see all the stars.    I know that thousands of other people across the United States and Canada have had similar good fortune in their moves to the country and many more seek to leave the congestion of the major cities and suburbs.

That is where my job comes in.  I work with people who want to live in a place where everyone knows each other in school and the parents always know what their children are doing.  Where the schools are safe and the teachers care about their jobs.  They want their children go grow up in the beauty of a rural setting and be spared the dangers of the concrete jungle.

I also work with folks in retirement who continue to seek a peaceful rural community to live in, and they bring their hard earned life savings with them, making more opportunities for people who work and have businesses in the area.  Retirees see the value in selling their urban or suburban property at a high price and buying a comparable property in the country for one-third the price, putting the rest of the money in savings, kicking back and enjoying life.

I sometimes work with younger pioneers who are willing to accept the lower income in rural ares for the joys of country living.  However, the net disposable income is often increased because the cost of living is lower.

The Lynchburg area second-home or vacation-home market is also healthy.  Any owner of a vacation retreat, as long as it is not rented out for more than 14 days per year, is allowed to deduct mortgage interest payments, property taxes and casualty losses.  If the property is rented for more than 15 days during the year, the tax laws become complex and you should consult a tax attorney or accountant.

Purchasing real state and buying a home in the Lynchburg Va area is not necessarily a get-rich quick investment, but as an investment in a better way of life.

This site is meant to be a tool that you should use through the process of finding and buying your place in the country as well as learn about me & my business.  I love the opportunity I have to get to know people on a very intimate basis through the home purchase and selling process.

As a Lynchburg Va area agent working with folks who want to find their own place in the country, I can’t just give out an address and send a buyer out to look a a house; personal touring must be done, this is this time consuming.  Often times I ferry buyers over hill and dale to show them property.  I may have to drive an hour or more to each home, on numerous occasions, before a property is sold.  Often as a broker I often help fight over restrictive laws against subdividing and developing land, thereby protecting land owners.  I also counteract the tendency of some rural residents to close the door to newcomers, which helps more people realize the dream of finding and buying a place in the country.

I have been a licensed real estate broker since 2003 and investing in real estate for decades before that.  If you ever have any questions about the Lynchburg Va area please give me a call or shoot me an email.  I’d love to hear from you.
